I'm a mom, and I smoke weed.

I'm a mom. I also have a Medical Marijuana card.

yay me.

I believe in the simplicity of Marijuana because it is a PLANT, grown from the earth. I believe the good Lord gave us Marijuana to help get through the aches and pains of life with a higher, natural quality of life.

My hope is a place for moms (whether for recreation or medical purposes) can come together and grab info, stories, support, advice, quotes, etc.

"From 1850 to 1942, marijuana was listed in the United States Pharmacopoeia as a useful medicine for nausea, rheumatism, and labor pains and was easily obtained at the local general store or pharmacy. Marijuana was first severely restricted as a recreational and medicinal drug in the U.S. by the Marihuana Tax Act of 1937. The law did not prohibit marijuana use but imposed such a heavy tax that legal sale and use became nearly impossible" (Booth, 2003).

I know moms who have smoked or vaporized marijuana during pregnancy and say it does in fact help with pain and nausea and has no harmful effect on their babies. I've heard from many of my mommy friends that when they've used MJ* during pregnancy their children often are very bright, intuitive and thoughtful, and they have such a better pregnancy all-around. (*vaporizing is recommended rather than traditional smoking)

I first read of Dr. Melanie Dreher's studies of moms who smoke marijuana in Jamaica-"Arguably the study most often cited on the subject is Dr. Dreher's work from Jamaica which examined the birth weights and early development of babies exposed to cannabis compared to non-exposed infants." The study can be found here.

Do most people KNOW that marijuana was listed as a "USEFUL MEDICINE to help nausea and labor pains" in the United States until 1942?

Why is it illegal now?

A heavy tax law in 1937 made the legal sale nearly impossible, and according to the U.S. Office of National Drug Control Policy (2009), MJ was made illegal in 1970 under the Controlled Substances Act, listing marijuana as a "high potential for abuse and no acceptable medical use." I believe the devil wanted it out of the hands of the people who believed in true peace within themselves and this Earth. I could be wrong, sure. But those of us who only 420 and know Jesus...well there's something about Mj that leads us to Him.

In fact the Bible says:

God said, "Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed which is upon the face of all the earth.…To you it will be for meat." … And God saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. (Genesis 1:29-31)

The Bible predicts some herb's prohibition. "Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times, some shall … speak lies in hypocrisy … commanding to abstain from meats which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. (Paul: 1 Timothy 4:1-3)

The Bible speaks of a special plant. "I will raise up for them a plant of renown, and they shall be no more consumed with hunger in the land, neither bear the shame of the heathen any more." (Ezekiel 34:29) A healing plant. On either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare 12 manner of fruits, and yielding her fruit every month; and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. (Revelations 22:1-2) A gift from God.

Cannabis was used 12 ways: clothing, paper, cord, sails, fishnet, oil, sealant, incense, food, and in ceremony, relaxation and medicine. For so the Lord said unto me, "I will take my rest and I will consider in my dwelling place like a clear heat upon herbs. For afore harvest, when the bud is perfect and the sour grape is ripening in the flower, he shall cut off the sprigs with pruning hooks and take away and cut down the branches." (Isaiah 18:4-5)

"Current supporters of medical marijuana believe the drug has significant medical value for patients who suffer from AIDS, glaucoma, cancer, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, and chronic pain. Several studies have been published to support and document this belief" (Chapkiss & Webb, 2008).

I should also state that I don't always smoke marijuana in a typical fashion. I "smoke" with a vaporizer. Vaporizing/Vaping is much healthier and a more natural way to get THC if you can manage the initial investment ($100-$200) for a good vaporizer.

When vaporizing you're not burning the plant to inhale, so carcinogens are diminished 80-90%. Vaping also saves money because you need far less and your Mj will last longer. When you traditionally smoke it burns up and depletes rapidly. In the photo on the right, you can see the middle section is "vaporized Mj" and is not as drastically changed from it's original state.

Vaporizing?
From http://www.vapornation.com website:

"Designed to reduce your consumption while receiving the same effects!  Vaporizing can cut the tar and carcinogens up to 80%-90%. Think what that can do for your health?  Da Buddha Herbal Vaporizer-Electric Candle will save you money! Its just that simple. You will vaporize 1/3 to 1/2 of what you currently smoke now. This is not bull, its real. Combustion destroys around 50%-60% of the active ingredients. Because vaporizing does not do this, it's like having twice as much tobacco!"

We found Mj helped with increasing and maintaining a healthy appetite, keeping nausea away, and helping to unwind and relax. I felt better. I felt happier. Marijuana is a life-helper I think in a lot of respects

It's also inexpensive. Depending on the quality, can cost anywhere from $50-$100 per month. It costs even less to grow it, which many states have now legalized (2017).

I know many find a great appeal in alcohol. It makes "things fun." But, does it? Don't most women usually get super depressed, call their ex or mom or best friend sobbing about life... and men just get into accidents or fights, or depression?

All too often, alcohol is a life-ruiner, making people angry, abusive...

"During the temperance movement of the 1890s, marijuana was commonly recommended as a substitute for alcohol. The reason for this was that use of marijuana did not lead to domestic violence while alcohol abuse did
(Booth, 2003).

MJ is not addictive and has no withdrawal symptoms.
You would miss it as you might miss a morning cup of coffee.

"The psychoactive side effects of THC in small doses include loss of inhibition, elation, and a distorted sense of time. (Marijuana) can also cause increased visual sensitivity and heightened imagination" (Booth, Cannabis: A History, 2003).

Heightened imagination!?? Oh no!!! "Elation?!" Sounds awful.

It's not easy being a mom. Being a mom is a wonderful and very important full-time choice. Being responsible for little HUMAN BEINGS... it can get stressful. Everyone has their history, their own trials in life. Most of us moms share a common goal - to get these little people through this unpredictable life as safely and lovingly as possible.

I have to agree with the author of "I’m a Mom and I’m Stoned Right Now" (2012):

"I'm not getting all crazy, hanging out of limo sun roofs, smoking weed off of hookers... I tend to ride out my buzz by giggling with my family, eating dinner, doing the dishes, putting the baby to bed and watching an episode of Friday Night Lights."

I use Mj and I will recommend vaporizing, the actual BUDS, to all moms who do so responsibly and happily  : )

XOXO,
Medical Marijuana Mom

My Best Friend Doesn't Believe Me...

My very best friend of ten years doesn't 100% believe me about the overall lifestyle benefit of vaporizing medical marijuana.

Ever since my surgery a few years ago, I am a true believer of the various benefits of this plant, which is why I started this blog.

When soldiers can be treated with Post-Traumatic-Stress-Disorder, maybe we could think hmmm....if MY life is stressful almost every day, I've had some pretty rough times, could MJ help me

Jeremiah Civil and Christian Slater are veterans of the Iraq War. These men saw things that would make the average citizen cringe in horror, and they left the war with deep emotional scars. Both Jeremiah and Christian were diagnosed with PTSD shortly before returning home, thrown into the wild world of a society that doesn’t understand their condition.
“When I smoke, it makes my brain slow down enough to deal with all of the sh#t out in the world. It helps me reach a balancing point. I’ve been on every drug they have out there and none of them did what marijuana has done for me,” Christian told me over an enormous spliff. In the military, he worked as a nuclear biological chemical defense marine and a mortuary affairs specialist, and spent time in Mozambique and Latvia doing embassy security. During this time he was unfortunate enough to be inside a tank that was flipped over. He suffered serious spinal cord injuries, and after spending the better part of a year inside a hospital, he was eventually released. Upon his return, he was diagnosed with PTSD and given a slew of prescription drugs to help the symptoms and relieve his back pain, which he still suffers from today.
The only thing they found that was able to help alleviate their symptoms was weed.
“When I smoke pot it takes care of my depression and anxiety. It makes it so I can go out in public. If someone tailgates me, I’m more likely to not give a f##k, and it doesn’t make me zombie out,” Jeremiah explained, saying that if someone tailgates you in Iraq they might be on the verge of attacking you.  Source: www.vice.com

So, very recently, my BFF (30/waitress/female/one kid) was in the car when her boyfriend got a DUI for driving home from a super bowl party having drank a few beers. His car was impounded. He is now facing those charges.

Not very smart choices, but most of us have known someone in this predicament.

She finally decided to accept a little portable vaporizer and small bag of Mj to try, because she wants to stop drinking altogether.

After only a few days of using Mj, my friend was starting to feel the calmness, the relaxation, and letting the "paranoid" feeling wear off on it's own. She was starting to see how everything can feel  more calm, but you're not "under the influence of a drug" and able to do everything like normal. She liked not having a sick feeling in the morning like after a night of drinking. She had used cannabis before with friends and she isn't against it at all; but as an every-day aid, I doubt she will continue.

They already drank since "quitting" a few weeks ago, when faced with an uncomfortable, overwhelming friend/family get-together. Now, I get taking your pipe and MJ out at a family function is probably not possible; but I wish it were. I think a lot of people would be way better off than drinking.

She said she and her boyfriend probably won't continue using Mj because they don't have a medical card and because he feels "paranoid" and can't look people in the eye.

: (

What I realized was, no matter how great Mj works for me, it took a long time to get to a place of feeling comfortable and even more myself after a puff. I remember feeling paranoid and that "everyone could tell." It's hard to get over.

But I promise, so long as you have eye drops in to fight the red-eye effect, no one can tell...

My own husband usually has to ask "did you puff?" He can't tell if I'm just in a good mood, or if I had a puff. And usually, to be honest, it's a good mood because I had a puff.

I'm sorry I'm just not strong enough to be "chipper pipper" 24/7. Sorry we live in the year 2014 and as a millennial, I'm overwhelmed with a lot in life. New day new problem. Weed just helps you see the brighter side of things through the scarier things....like changing a screaming kids' poopy diaper, or pressing "ignore" to one more bill collector call, or worrying about work and your mom's health, etc.

There's no need to even try other things like prescription drugs, alcohol or hard drugs when you use Mj, because it truly is just a higher quality of life. Coupled with watching Interventions, you learn that probably shooting heroin does feel great, but you can't get through this life doped up on heroin to feel better. You kinda have to accept the good with the bad, and I'm talking day in & day out. With that, comes a relief aid. Marijuana. A relaxer. Just like Jeremiah and Chris use, with PTSD from serving in Iraq.

True Story...

One day my husband and I had an overwhelming family function to attend which first included an errand/store stop with everyone. This was before we had kids...

While in the back parking lot of the store in our car, we puffed from a little portable pipe. Put in our eye drops, sprayed febreze in the car, popped in a breath mint and in the store we went. We had just stepped inside and there was all of the family, standing there, his mom in front!

Now, my husband's mother is no feeble woman. If she had suspected her son of having been "high on Marijuana" there wasn't a person in the store she would have cared if they heard her yelling. It would have been pretty bad. And I gotta admit, it was scary walking in and facing them...but what could we do? We went on and faced themlooked his parents square in the eyes and said our hellos!

Nothing happened. No one could tell.

If they had, there's no way they would have carried on about the day (strict, military, way-Christian parent types) even buying our lunch later and being nice to us. No way!

So my point is, there we were, somewhat "Mj Pros" and we still felt that stigma of eyes watching us, waiting to be "caught" in the knowingness of onlookers. But the truth is, in my experience, people can't tell.

Anyhow,

I figured if I couldn't even convince a very good friend to completely go from alcohol to just using medical marijuana, there may not be much hope in helping any viewers out there to be convinced. So I've got to figure out a project this year to convince people to at least try Mj as a lifestyle aid, while pushing out the addictions that are actually harmful to ourselves and our well-being.

I want to bring the truth to people because this life is so hard. This life will break you down if you let it. I can't explain how Marijuana being vaporized (or, puffed) can help your mental state of mind every single day, but it can. It simply does.

Why is every season of Intervention ALWAYS about alcohol, pills, meth, crack, cocaine, heroin....?

Why are NONE of them about solely using Marijuana? In fourteen seasons...?

Because they would seriously never, ever consider someone "on Marijuana" a drug addict or unable to function and needing help.

Ask ourselves, why is that?

Because it's simply not harmful. So if it's not harmful, could it actually be beneficial?

I believe so.

Alcohol is the only drug openly discussed in the Bible, so it must serve as our reference. Wine is drunk during religious occasions such as Passover &emdash; the Last Supper of Jesus and His disciples. It remains a sacrament in modern church services.
Jesus began his public life by miraculously turning water into wine at the Wedding at Cana (John 2:1-10) when the reception ran out. The Bible distinguishes between use and misuse. It says, Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts. (Proverbs 31:6-7) but Woe unto them that … follow strong drink; that continue until night, till wine inflame them! (Isaiah 5:10)

Uruguay OK's first national marketplace for Marijuana

USA TODAY:

MONTEVIDEO, Uruguay (AP) — Uruguay's Senate gave final congressional approval Tuesday to create the world's first national marketplace for legal marijuana, an audacious experiment that will have the government oversee production, sales and consumption of a drug illegal almost everywhere else.
The vote was 16 to 13, with the governing Broad Front majority united in favor. The plan now awaits the signature of President Jose Mujica, who wants the market to begin operating next year.
Two-thirds of Uruguayans oppose a government-run marijuana industry, according to opinion polls. But Mujica said he's convinced the global drug war is a failure and feels bureaucrats can do a better job of containing addictions and beating organized crime than police, soldiers and prison guards.
"Today is an historic day. Many countries of Latin America, and many governments, will take this law as an example," cheered Sen. Constanza Moreira, voting with the Broad Front majority.
Uruguay's drug control agency will have 120 days, until mid-April, to draft regulations imposing state control over the entire market for marijuana, from seed to smoke.
Everyone involved must be licensed and registered, with government monitors enforcing limits such as the 40 grams a month any adult will be able to buy at pharmacies for any reason or the six marijuana plants that license-holders will be allowed to grow at home.
Congress' lower house approved the bill in late July, and senators rejected all proposed amendments, enforcing party discipline before Tuesday's debate to assure the outcome.
Former Health Minister Alfredo Solari, a Colorado Party senator, warned Tuesday that children and adolescents will more easily get their hands on pot and that "the effects of this policy on public health will be terrible."
But Sen. Roberto Conde, a former deputy foreign minister with the Broad Front, said marijuana "is already established in Uruguay. It's a drug that is already seen as very low risk and enormously easy to get."
Mujica, a 78-year-old former leftist guerrilla who spent years in jail while many others experimented with marijuana, said the goal is to reduce drug use. A government ad campaign launched Friday makes the same point, warning of pot smoking's dangers to human health.
"This is not liberalization of marijuana. It can be consumed within certain parameters established by law. I think it will reduce consumption," Sen. Luis Gallo, a retired doctor who favored the bill, told The Associated Press.
The government got help from a national TV campaign and other lobbying efforts supporting by billionaire currency speculator and philanthropist George Soros and his Open Society Foundation and Drug Policy Alliance. In September, Mujica met with Soros and billionaire David Rockefeller in New York to explain his "experiment."
These deep-pocketed connections drew criticism from Mujica's opponents.
"I would say to Mr. Soros, to Mr. Rockefeller, and to the president of the republic that you don't experiment with the Uruguayans. We are not guinea pigs," Colorado Party Sen. Pedro Bordaberry said Tuesday.
Hannah Hetzer, a lobbyist for the Alliance who moved to Montevideo for the campaign, watched closely from the Senate gallery.
"Uruguay is seeking an alternative to a failed model. I think that this is the beginning of the end of a prohibitionist model and the beginning of a more intelligent focus," she said.

MJ and Feeling Happy...

Some mornings (usually Mondays) I don't want to do my "to-do list" stuff because it's kind of depressing--appointments, emails, upcoming bills, etc.  : /

So I have a vaporize in the morning, or if I have time to make it before the kids wake up, some herbal tea.

I start to feel somewhat better and at least calm.

After a vaporize marijuana, I am usually able to put my worries on the back-burner. I am somehow relaxed enough to tell myself, "hey..it's a Monday; they are hard for you. Give yourself some time to just enjoy your children, laugh and play and read and have a nice lunch and don't worry about things so much because it's a day you are blessed with; be happy for that alone and cherish your blessings instead of being sad..."

- - -

I have a friend who has some pretty harsh health issues going on (which tend to affect her emotionally as well) and I asked her if she would try vaporizing Marijuana if she were to get a medical card from her doctor. She says she "has tried MJ before, but it makes her feel 'funny' and 'weird'" so she doesn't think it's for her; only once in a while. I try to tell her, if she is having pain every day (which she is) she should be taking care of herself with organic fruits and veggies in her diet and vaporizing Mj. I think those are two very healthy and natural things to do, for physical and mental health. Some of my friends agree. Some feel Mj is just not for them and makes them feel "weird."

Anyone else out there with the same sort of push-back when suggesting Mj use?

Maybe I am just incredibly fortunate to be able to live out my existence on this planet in a country where I've lived thirty years having enough to eat, living in peace, fairly protected as a girl, education, happy marriage, etc... along with the luck of having access to medical-grade Mj, now even legally!

Yes, I should be pretty thankful.

I hope my kids remember their mom as happy and less stressed out than I actually am. So if Mj helps, I have to reach out and at least share what I've learned in my own experiences as a mom.

When I tried our friend's vaporizer years ago, I was so skeptical at first thinking, "how can that be better than traditional smoking? You can't even see or smell it...."  Exactly. That's the greatest part! A vaporize is somewhat like smoking hookah.. if you have seen the puffy cloud of hookah air, vaporizing Mj is even more discreet than that and just a more peaceful and calming effect. That's it, and it's the greatest.

My husband and I would be way more be stressed than is really necessary in life if not for Mj. We are bummed about student loan bills...but we don't want to fail to realize we could be living in a hut with a tin roof and no way for help, or we could have a mortgage of 100's of thousands of dollars, or major health issues, but luckily we don't. So it's a matter of perspective.

How can I explain to my friend that when you vaporize this magical medicinal plant, you genuinely just feel better? Much better in my opinion. I suppose if it weren't for my friend years ago, I would still be using a water bong, wasting weed (you use way less with a vaporizer), having to worry about the smell, etc.  With a vaporizer, there is almost no smell at all; no worry when people come over or if you are leaving your house to go out...

That's what did it for me. It was worth $150 for a good quality but still even on the "low-cost" end of vaporizers... Da Buddha vaporizer.

We've had ours for years and would never want to be without, it's that important. No medicinal user should be smoking from a bong or pipe or joint only... vaporizers are the BEST way to use marijuana, it's the simple truth.

We at Medical Marijuana Mom are here to point out our views and our association with VaporNation - who offer just about every single vaporizer out there, as well as free discreet shipping, reviews, amazing customer service and more. This Katt Williams video (explicit language warning!) is so hilare--and so true:

"HUNGRY HAPPY SLEEPY"

What does THC do?

THC - Tetrahydrocannabinol

"Well, THC is the one we know about because it's the more psychotropic one, and it's the one that Dr. Mechoulam first isolated as the psychotropic compound. I think it was in the 70's, or maybe even the 60's, that he identified THC. Then they identified CBD, Canabidiol. And GW Pharmaceuticals, a company out of the UK, has been extracting CBD and THC from the whole plant...so it's only recently that there's one of the labs in Oakland that's measuring THC and Cannabidiol."
- Dr. Frank  Lucido, family practice
A NORML Life Documentary

Marijuana is used because its primary active ingredient, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), produces a relaxed state and may heighten the senses. THC causes dopamine release, which produces euphoria. Colors and sounds may seem more intense, time may appear to pass more slowly, and pleasant sensations may be experienced. (About.com, Chemistry)

Écoutez-moi. (Listen).

I'm not here to tell anyone what to do in life. Some may agree with me (thank you, my kind followers) and some may not. That's life! We shouldn't go around judging or trying to control other people's decisions. We know who is the true judge, and it's certainly not us mortals. Know why none of us are "better" than anyone else? Because our judgement day has not yet come. And nope, I'm not talking Terminator 2.

I'm talking about, really, what is a lifetime? How much time do we actually spend here...sixty-ish years average? I don't know the exact statistics but I mean... that's three of your twenties. It's really not that long. Time to live true to ourselves instead of trying to always please others.

If I want to blog about how a plant that is NATURAL and from the earth helps ME be a better person and a better mom...then I guess I just have to do it and quit being quiet about it.

I guess....it's time to face criticism and debates because I know there are enough supporters and knowers out there. Peace and Stoners, that's how the 70's were that's how the 2000's are. Legalized in TWO states? Frigin GO us. Go Millennials and some of you GenX and Yer's.

Maybe it's time I say what I actually think...which is I once was a person who got mad at my friends for "tokin up" in front of me and using "illegal drugs!" Good golly one day my best friend Dusty said, "it's just a plant, man" and that was it. I guess just realizing it was a plant made me open my mind to the possibility. And smoking MJ left the most peaceful and still very aware and alert feeling—like my troubles melted away onto the back burner—so I could then make delicious omelets and turkey bacon on the front burners. Meaning, Marijuana just helps you melt your anxiety away for a few hours, helping you focus on the good in life that is still plentiful. Somehow, no matter how broke, worried or stressed about life we are—MJ helps. Every single time.

Yes. I'm a Millennial mom who thinks legalizing MJ for parents everywhere IS the best way to go. For helping cancer patients and those with chronic illness, it IS the way to go. I think organic vegetables and fruits (Gersen Theory) combined with medical marijuana is the path I would take if diagnosed with something fatal and allowed to choose my treatment.

I have more to say, more to think over, and more to be joyful about when I have my morning puff. Because somehow, for me—an American living a perfect American life—that's not enough. I worry too much. I stress too much. It's the luck of the draw and I have to deal with it somehow... in a way that doesn't lead me to an Intervention episode in life. We can say to moms and dads "you should not feel so stressed out! Be thankful for what you have." Sure. But maybe it's not always enough.

Mj helps me get to that "okay, I'm actually a happy person and I can deal with and totally get through this thing called life" mentality that I don't know friends, I honestly don't know how I would get there otherwise. I try and I am a happy person, but if I am honest with myself—there is usually some point of each day that I just feel kind of at my limit, for whatever the reason. It's nice...to have a puff and reopen my connection to my future, my thoughts, my gratitude.

So until I am on a comfy couch with a therapist I can't possibly afford helping me deal with past issues or something...Yes, I will believe in the wonder of a plant that was once listed as "a useful medicine for nausea, rheumatism, and labor pains" and was easily obtained at the general store or pharmacy. It's helped me more than I can imagine. I am thankful Marijuana is now becoming medically and recreationally legal in more states due to the findings and current research about the mental and physical benefits of this "dangerous drug" (on the Fed's list).

Why dangerous?

Because after I puff I want to eat a big sandwich, cuddle with my family, giggle and see the brighter side in life?

Oh yeah. Pull out the list. Dangerous. Check.
